Peer to Peer Mentoring Scheme

The Peer-to-Peer Mentoring Scheme (also known as the Mentoring Scheme) started as an Undergraduate project initiated by the Writtle College Academic Sabbatical Officer alongside Dr. Jarmila Bone, the Course Scheme Manager for Animal Management/Science and CASTLe.  The initial trial began in January 2011.

The Mentoring Scheme was set up in response to a number of students requesting help with skills like referencing and formatting. The trial proved very useful, and was fully introduced across all College disciplines in September 2011.

The Mentoring Scheme is built on the relationship between a senior student and a fresher. The scheme is for HE students and is purely for academic/course related purposes; i.e. help and advice with coursework and general course issues such as assignment formatting, referencing, research, time management and dissertation writing.

The scheme works as follows:

- Postgraduates mentor 3rd Year Undergraduates

- 3rd Year Undergraduates mentor 2nd and 1st Year Undergraduates

- 2nd Year Undergraduates mentor 1st Year Undergraduates

There are two types of sessions.  A one-to-one meeting can be arranged if something specific is being discussed.  There are also drop-in sessions where mentors agree a time and a place and mentees can drop in and talk about general issues.

For any queries, or to become a mentor or a mentee, please see the Academic Sabbatical Officer in the SU Office.
