Writtle College Student Union

Writtle College Student Union (WCSU) consists of all the students enrolled on a course at Writtle College.

The Student Union Council, also referred to as the SU, comprises of around 12  enthusiastic individuals who are elected by the student body each year. There are 2 full time employees in the office:

• The Student Union Support Officer (employed by the College) to support the elected SU members, organise events and to manage the day-to-day running of the SU office, and

• The Academic Sabbatical Officer (elected by student body, and employed by the College), who deals with academic issues within the SU supporting students with course-related issues, overseeing all the Higher Education Course Representatives and runs various academic-related schemes (e.g. the Peer-to-peer Mentoring Scheme).

The Academic Sabbatical Officer

Since the introduction of the Academic Sabbatical Officer role in September 2010, a close and valuable partnership between the SU and CASTLe has been developed. This allows the College to communicate information back to the students more effectively, for instance regarding College and National surveys and their results, consultation with students on academic issues and consultation with students before, during and after inspections and reviews by external bodies such as the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) and the University of Essex.

The Academic Sabbatical Officer also provides one of the main sources of contact for the National Student Survey (NSS), promoting it throughout the College and encouraging final year undergraduate students to get involved with the survey.

All of the SU officers are here to improve student experience, through welfare and academic advice,  recreational, social and sporting events as well as clubs and societies.
